Welcome to our home!!
This post has been about five and a half years in the making and I’m both nervous and excited to share our remodeling journey with all of you! My word for 2018 is Adventure – so what better time to start than now?!
But first, a little back story on how this all started! See that cute guy up on the front porch? Well, that photo was taken back in June 2012 on the day he decided to make an offer on the cute yellow 1930 cottage. We had been dating a little under a year at this point and he was moving to start his first job in Columbus, NE and needed to find a place to live. Apartments were scarce, so he started looking at houses and invited me to join his second day of the search to get my input. It’s like he knew I might live there one day too 🙂 We looked at a few, but this cutie just won us over. Sure it was old (and smelled old) and had some gross wallpaper and pink tile – but that front porch, the arches, and the layout were better than the runner-up 1980s split level any day. #characterwins
It had only been on the market maybe a day or two when he went to put in the offer and luckily he got it! Even before we were married, I’d drive in and we’d spend weekends doing projects. Four years later he proposed after finishing a house project (very appropriate for our relationship), we got married, and now it’s our home. Over the past five and a half years, we’ve painted every single room but one, painted ceilings, redone two bathrooms (one more than once), redone floors, decorated and then redecorated, and made it ours.
Without further ado, here is the “Before” Tour of our 1930 cottage!
The Kitchen – You can’t see it, but that is navy blue wallpaper with tiny white hearts alllll over it.
The Half Bath – Yes, that’s beige wallpaper with seashells on it.
The Living Room
The Dining Room – We saw some pink paint on the baseboards when we bought the house and then found this gem online!
The room when we bought it.
The Full Bath – You’re eyes don’t deceive you. That’s pink tile with black wallpaper with more hearts and flowers.
The Master Bedroom
Bedroom #2 – There’s also a 3rd bedroom, but somehow we missed taking a before picture. Basically, it was this same carpet with lime green walls #awesome
The Basement – that thing back in the corner used to be the only shower in the house
The Backyard #weedsonweeds
So there you have it! Anybody else have an ugly bathroom or two or bought a house and thought to yourself, “Who in their right mind would choose this color?!” Please tell me I’m not alone! I can’t wait to put together the “After” posts for each room to show you what we’ve done! Stay tuned…
